AFFIMER has co-funded several expeditions and research projects since 1990, including:
    2001 Everest Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition Team
  • The 2001 Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition on Mount Everest to study the exploits of the pioneer climbers with historians and research climbers searching the upper mountain. The team found old camps and artifacts. The final tally included the 1922 ABC, 1924 C6, 1933 C6, 1960 and 1975 Chinese C6, and 1960 Chinese C7.

  • The 1999 Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition on Mount Everest to explore the existence of evidence related to the historic 1924 summit attempt of George Leigh Mallory and Andrew Irvine.

  • A reconnaissance trip to the Khumbu Region of Nepal in 1998 to study the natural variability of the monsoon climate system through glacier fluctuations and other climatic proxy data.

  • Support of the International Snow Leopard Trust (ISLT) in its continuing research and other efforts to preserve the endangered snow leopard and its high mountain habitat.

  • The 1991 American Everest Northface Direct Expedition, an environmentally sensitive expedition sponsored by the Ohmeda Corp. to study the effects of acclimatization on oxygen saturation levels.
