An electrician is a person who inspects, fits, repairs, or installs new wiring infrastructures. Many electricians work in homes, offices, or public buildings. They ensure that all wires and circuits remain safe and functional, fix any faults, and install new circuits after any building work is completed.
There are many opportunities for advancement for electricians in Ivanhoe. One can rise through the ranks to supervisor or manager through hard work, training, and experience. In the event that this fails, electricians can continue to work for their own financial support or become self-employed.

Additionally, an electrician with extensive experience may be able to become an engineering technician. This means that an electrician can specialize in solving technical problems within the engineering and construction industries.
If you wish to become an electrician fully qualified, you will need a level 3 in Electrotechnical Services. This qualification can be obtained by either the City & Guilds or EMTA Awards Limited. For school leavers up to the age of 19, it is a good idea to begin training as an apprentice and to incorporate their NVQ study into their training.
Practical training is the second part of the NVQ. This allows students to get hands-on experience with larger projects and takes on more responsibility than the average electrician.
An electrician can continue to gain additional qualifications even after they have completed their NVQ. These include City & Guilds certifications in Inspection, Testing, Certification of Installations; Wiring Regulations; In-Service Inspection; Testing of Electrical Equipment.
There are also training programs that can help one improve their skills. Part P is one such program. It allows electricians to certify all their electrical work themselves, rather than requiring approval from a contractor or building inspector.
